It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
