An individual who spiked candy with sleeping medication and provided them to children at a summer camp in the region has confessed to sexual offenses against two boys both nine and ten years old.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight children and an older person fell ill at the facility in the summer month.

The elderly man, from that region, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the courthouse on Friday.

However, he denied one particular crime he was accused of, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

The accused was remanded in custody ahead of a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Treat game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, outlined the criminal behavior to the court.

She explained his those affected were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he ran.

Ruben engaged in a "sweet game" with the children, the legal counsel stated, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She stated the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had suspicions in recently.

Mrs Prior KC added: "Recently" his stepson had concerns about what was going on, with valid cause.

"They resolved" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel stated objects including lubricant, Vaseline and injection devices were discovered, and his stepson contacted the authorities about his concerns.

She said Ruben continued to play the "candy game" with six boys that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that point," she added.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

The legal representative said the minors were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the family member called the police again.

She said the man then played the "candy game" in a area of five minors.
