Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Officers then found numerous other marked cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police report initial examinations indicate the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A senior representative stated the incident made him without words and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
